Disturbing searches.

When I restarted my blog, I was of two minds about stat-tracking. During my family’s harrowing experience with cyberstalking, I became almost obsessive about that sort of thing: recording IP addresses and links in order to provide the police with the most technically detailed picture of the culprits as possible. Eventually, even with all that, MA and I still felt it was best to disappear for a while just to break the trail.

So I wasn’t sure if I wanted to get back into that besieged mindset this time around. On the one hand, I felt it might be important to follow links and such simply to make sure no creeps managed to track me down, but on the other hand I didn’t want to descend into rampant paranoia the way I had. In the end I installed a WordPress plugin that would allow me in general way to see what was being viewed and by whom, right on the dashboard.

None of the creepy (and dangerous) stalkers have returned, thank God, but I have noticed a trend toward disturbing search-engine queries. The world is full of perverts and creeps. We’re all aware of that in the backs of our minds, but it’s a little discomfiting to see repeated searches for things like: the hills have eyes 2 rape scene clip, “hills have eyes 2″ extended rape scene, and so forth. Yes, I watch and write about movies like The Hills Have Eyes 2, so I can’t really complain about people finding me when they search for related articles, but the relentlessly sadistic nature of searches like the ones I mentioned — rape, rape, rape — can be unsettling. I also recently got one for hillary clinton or boss nigger.

I’m beginning to wonder if I should put a sign up that says, “Welcome all douchebags!”

    Which plugin is that again?

Believe it or not, I get even fewer hits and searches than you, but I’m still curious.

    It’s called WordPress.com Stats.
